Hon. Commissioner for Basic & Secondary Education

  • "The introduction of eMiS will revolutionize our ability to make data-driven decisions. For the first time, we will have real-time access to accurate, learner-level data, enabling us to track enrollment, retention, and academic performance across all public and private institutions. Each student now has a unique Learner Identification Number (LIN), ensuring transparency and continuity in educational records.

Through eMiS, we will also enhance the management of our teaching and non-teaching workforce. From teacher deployment and transfers to attendance monitoring, the system ensures accountability and will allow us to respond swiftly to staffing needs across the state's schools.

Moreover, eMiS will empower us to effectively assess and plan for infrastructure development. With detailed records of every classroom, toilet, library, and teacher's quarters, we will be better positioned to identify gaps and prioritize investment in underserved areas.

Together, we are building a smarter, more responsive, and more resilient education sector."

Core Features

eMis core components feature the following:

Abia State Learners Identification Number (ASLIN)

ASLIN is a unique identifier assigned to every child in Abia State, whether enrolled in a public or private school. It enables the Ministry to monitor each learner’s academic journey from pre-school through senior secondary school. By capturing comprehensive data on every student, ASLIN helps the government better understand individual learning needs and improve educational outcomes across the board.

Abia State Teachers Identification Number (ASTIN)

ASTIN is a unique identifier for every teacher in Abia State, regardless of whether they teach in public or private schools. Recognizing that all children in the state—whether in public or private institutions—deserve quality education, we are committed to ensuring that all teachers have access to the same training and professional development opportunities.

Abia State Schools Identification Number (ASSIN)

ASSIN is a unique identification code assigned to every school in Abia State - public and private. It allows the Ministry to effectively monitor, manage, and support all educational institutions across the state. By uniquely tagging each school, ASSIN enables accurate data collection, informed policy decisions, and targeted interventions in areas such as infrastructure, staffing, and student enrollment.

ASSIN is also instrumental in our broader strategy to improve school standards across the board. As part of our commitment to reducing the number of out-of-school children and eliminating shanty schools, the Ministry is extending support to emerging private schools. With proper assistance and oversight, many of these schools can transition into fully licensed institutions with better infrastructure and learning environments.

To further encourage continuous improvement, schools will be ranked using key performance metrics and indices. This ranking system is designed not to punish but to inspire - motivating schools to enhance their teaching quality, infrastructure, and administrative practices. Over time, this approach is expected to drive widespread improvements in both public and private education, creating safer, more effective learning environments for all children in Abia State.

Capabilities:

- Sophisticated Data Visualization Components: ASBS-EMIS provides interactive dashboards and user-specific reports. These tools allow education managers to access live data and generate reports tailored to their operational needs.

- Greater Efficiency and Data Integrity: ASBS-EMIS has an integrated web-based Geographic Information System (GIS) for spatial data analysis.

- Dynamic Reporting Options: ASBS-EMIS supports a dual-reporting framework—users can generate standard reports using predefined templates or create custom reports with an intuitive ad-hoc reporting engine, promoting deeper data analysis and flexible information use.
